Sami Callihan wants to win the IMPACT World Championship again, though his return to peak performance will take some time.
Callihan won the title in 2019 and dropped it to Tessa Blanchard at IMPACT Hard To Kill 2020. Since then, he has been unsuccessful in his quest to regain the belt, and his ankle injury sidetracked this championship chase. Now that he’s back in action, Callihan is focused on becoming the champion again.
In an interview with the Daily Star, he made it clear that he’s aiming to regain his status as the top guy by saying, “If you don’t always want to be champion, you don’t always want to be the top guy at the company, why are you doing this?”
Callihan went on to state that IMPACT has one of the best rosters in the industry today, and he shared his belief that the company always delivers great wrestling.
“I look at Impact Wrestling, I think we have unquestionably one of the best rosters in all of professional wrestling. Right now, we’re the island of misfit toys. When the chips are down, we always come through, we have some of the best PPVs and wrestling on a weekly basis,” he said.
The former champion also noted that he thinks people underestimated how bad his broken ankle was, noting that the severity of the injury has sidelined other athletes for over two years. He made it clear that his return to the ring is a gradual process.
“It’s one of those things, I’m coming back each time I get in the ring, I’m going to get better and better and more comfortable,” Callihan said.
IMPACT Wrestling is currently gearing up for the Emergence event. You can check out the full card here.
