Ryback Recalls Vince McMahon Yelling At Him For Becoming ‘Flyback’

Near the end of his WWE run, Ryback began incorporating more ariel moves into his offense. Ryback was dubbed ‘Flyback’ by online fans as he would break out the corkscrew plancha onto opponents.

Speaking with Rusev on The Ryback Show, Ryback recalled Vince McMahon’s reaction to Flyback.

“Vince yelled at me and said I am never ever to fucking do that ever again. Headset off, fire in his eyes, I go, ‘Did you hear the people?’ You and Seth [Rollins] were my two favorite people to work because you were so open to doing whatever. We would go out and have fantastic matches and I would go out and listen to the crowd,” said Ryback.

Rusev commented that listening to the crowd was something he started to learn more about when he would step in the ring with John Cena. Rusev previously praised Cena for his psychology and teaching him many things inside and outside the ring.

When Rusev asked Ryback about his relationship with Cena, Ryback replied, “I put John over, professionally, all day long because you’d be in the ring and he forces you to listen to the crowd. Getting the most out of what you do and getting the people to react and digest things and that you don’t have to do a million things to get the loudest reaction. You can only get that from working with John. If you have a good relationship with him, and I did at one point, but once things with me and him got competitive from a financial standpoint, it changed.”

Ryback took plenty of shots at Cena after he left WWE in 2016. However, he did tweet in June 2019 that he’s moved on from the feud and has respect for what he did in the ring.
