RUSH, Dragon Lee No Longer Wrestling For CMLL

As RUSH’s journey with Ring Of Honor continues with winning the ROH World Championship, his journey with CMLL ends.

The company announced in the early morning of September 28/late evening of September 27 that both RUSH and Dragon Lee have been released. In a statement on Twitter, CMLL said both Dragon Lee and RUSH did not comply with company guidelines, but did not specify anymore.

From CMLL:

“CMLL has been forged by some of the greatest figures in Lucha Libre throughout 86 years, characterized by its discipline and seriousness. That is why it is announced that starting now, RUSH and Dragon Lee are no longer part of our company for no complying with committing to programming and company guidelines.”

Just before the announcement was made, RUSH put out a video on Twitter stating that he is now an independent wrestler.

Dragon Lee, a former IWGP junior heavyweight champion in New Japan Pro Wrestling, also took to social media to react to the news, saying he was very surprised that it even happened.

“I feel surprised that a company so serious, of which I have been very loyal, dedicating my life, my body and my attention, elevating CMLL around the world and even in companies and places they wouldn’t let me because of the company’s ego, but I did it for the love of lucha libre and wanted to grow.

I don’t understand why CMLL announced my firing when I haven’t told them I was leaving and much less spoken to my father La Bestia and my brother RUSH, who announced his release. But hey, I’m out and it looks like they ran me out. I can’t believe it.

I welcome this new chapter in my life. I’m thankful for Mr. Francisco Alonso, who always gave me his support, trusted in me and gave me many opportunities.”

Dragon Lee recently competed in the 2019 PWG Battle of Los Angeles, advancing all the way to the semifinals. RUSH won the ROH World Championship on September 27 at the “Death Before Dishonor” show by pinning Matt Taven in the main event.
