Ronda Rousey Says WWE Copied Women’s Revolution; Becky Lynch & Charlotte Comment On Mania Main Event
The media tour begins.
Earlier this morning, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Ronda Rousey appeared on ESPN SportsCenter to promote their WrestleMania 35 main event. All three were asked their feelings about being named the main event of the biggest show of the year. Here’s what they had to say:
“I’ve been working towards this, obsessively, since I was 15 years old. I left home, traveled to Canada and around Japan and Europe. There was a period in there where I left the business because I didn’t think this was possible. But there was always part of me that felt like I had more to do and I wanted to accomplish this dream. Even when I signed with WWE, I said to one of my good friends, ‘I’m gonna main event WrestleMania.’ He said, ‘It’s good to dream. But be realistic.’ And here we are.”
“So many people said it’s a huge dream. Main eventing WrestleMania is the pinnacle of the women’s evolution. Even two years ago, people would say, ‘that’s impossible.’ The women from the past helped get us here and what we created in the last few months and the momentum…now we’re walking into MetLife with a capacity of 80,000 people and main eventing WrestleMania.”
“On one hand, I was expecting it. On another, I was really happy that it was finally certain. It seemed like an abstract goal somewhere far in the future. I came into WWE just a year ago and my goal from the very beginning was; I want to be part of the first-ever women’s main event for WrestleMania. It’s incredible the amount of momentum we’ve been able to generate in just a year. If you look at last year’s WrestleMania compared to now…what’s happening in WWE is a parallel for everything that’s happening culturally around the world. The WWE just copies everything else that’s happening like women’s evolution….any industry out there. It’s one of those mediums that can affect real social change and how women view themselves. This is the same company that had bra & panty matches to now raising women to the highest pinnacle they have.”
