Roman Reigns Talks Potential Shield Reunion
Although they are on different shows currently, Roman Reigns is still bombarded by inquiries regarding a potential Shield reunion.
In a recent interview with Inquirer.net, Reigns discussed the likelihood that he, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose would reunite the faction in the future. Reigns and Rollins currently are on Raw, while Ambrose is one of the top stars on SmackDown!
"I would never say never," Reigns said during the interview. "I think we're all very happy with where we're at. It's going to take something drastic, something huge in the WWE to bring The Shield back. I think nothing's impossible in the WWE. As we always say, stay tuned."
The Shield made their main roster debut in WWE in late 2012. Reigns and Rollins had a lengthy reign as WWE Tag Champions, while Ambrose held the U.S. Title. The Shield became one of the most popular groups in WWE before they split in 2014 after Rollins turned on his partners and joined The Authority.
Reigns described The Shield as the start of what WWE is now billing as its "New Era."
"It's not talked about too often because of NXT and how big that product became and just the wave of new talent from NXT. It really shined through. But something a lot of people missed was The Shield is actually kind of the beginning of the new era. We kind of paved the road and took the bumps and made this process a lot smoother for those guys as well," Reigns said. "We had to deal with the older guys who had been here, rooted in, and had the system their way. And we came in and did a good job of leading those in the new generation. People could say what they want, but no matter what, the three members of The Shield will lead the way."
All three members of The Shield faced one another for the first time at the Battleground pay-per-view in July. Ambrose won that match, retaining his WWE World Heavyweight Title.
Reigns is currently the only alumnus of The Shield who holds a title in WWE. He defeated Rusev to become U.S. Champion at Sunday's Clash of Champions.
