John Cena Signs Contract To Face Roman Reigns At WWE SummerSlam
The Universal Championship will be defended at WWE SummerSlam.
On the July 30 episode of SmackDown, Roman Reigns and Finn Balor met in the ring for a contract signing. Last week, Reigns rejected Cena’s match proposal and said yes to Balor instead. During the segment, Reigns said that Balor is worthy of catching this beating.
Reigns set the stipulation that Balor would go back to NXT after he lost the match. Just as Finn was set to sign, he was attacked by Baron Corbin. As he stood with the contract in hand, looking to create his own opportunity, Cena came out and beat him up. He then put pen to paper and handed the contract to Sonya Deville and Adam Pearce.
Backstage, Paul Heyman approached the WWE Officials and argued that it shouldn’t be valid considering it is Finn’s name on the contract. Pearce, however, said that he sees two signatures and that that’s good enough for him. As a result, the Universal Championship match between Cena and Reigns at SummerSlam has been ratified.
