The Rock Comments On “The CM Punk Phone Call” Incident

As has been reported here and elsewhere over and over this week, in between filming scenes for the Paige biopic Fighting With My Family after Raw on Monday, The Rock took his cue from the thousands of fans chanting CM Punk's name and decided to call Punk right then and there. Punk didn't pick up, and Rock left him a voicemail, one that the entire Staples Center crowd chimed in on.

We found out the following day, that–surprise, surprise–Vince McMahon and Triple H weren't too happy with The Rock going rogue. He was just riffing in the moment and the segment wasn't planned or approved by WWE brass. They even sent an official down to the ring to tell him to quit it.

Well, we now have a comment from The Rock, via Twitter.

Leave it to The People's Champ to be the kind of guy who tries to give the crowd what they want.

And no matter how you slice it, he's right. There was huge positive feedback from the WWE Universe. Which might be a thing you'd embrace, rather than try to squash.

Just sayin'.
