Eagles had been growing frustrated with Bullet Club as of late, mainly since the addition of El Phantasmo, who not only began stealing some shine from Eagles but is also just kind of a jerk. Eagles was visibly upset with Phantasmo during the Best of Super Juniors tournament when Phantasmo helped him pick up a victory over Will Ospreay.
Despite Eagles anger towards his former running mate, the Best of Super Juniors win against Ospreay did earn him an IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title Shot against the current champion at Southern Showdown in Melbourne. Eagles put up a valiant effort but could not overcome Ospreay.
