Road Dogg Recalls Bryan Danielson Being ‘Stiff’ With Kicks, Says Daniel Garcia Work Gets Him Over

Road Dogg recalls working with the former Daniel Bryan in 2014 and comments on Bryan Danielson’s recent match with Daniel Garcia.

In 2014, Brian “Road Dogg” James had a last hurrah in WWE as a wrestler. As part of this final run, Road Dogg and Billy Gunn once again became WWE Tag Team Champions and they got to share the ring with competitors such as Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, The Shield, and Daniel Bryan.

Also in that same timeframe, Daniel Bryan was catapulted to the main event of WrestleMania as part of his struggles against the Triple H-led Authority. As part of that group, Road Dogg and Billy Gunn assumed familiar roles as henchmen to Triple H, which put them in the path of Daniel Bryan more than once.

Reflecting on working against Daniel Bryan, who is now working in AEW under his real name, Road Dogg stated on the most recent Oh… You Didn’t Know podcast that Bryan liked to be a little snug with his kicks.

“Yeah, he was stiff. He just kicked me real hard,” said Dogg. “I was like, ‘Hell. Don’t do that. I’m going to slap my leg when I hit you, so don’t kick me hard.”

Of course, the difference between Bryan and Road Dogg is the difference between a professional wrestler and a sports entertainer. Ironically, in 2022, Bryan Danielson is actively playing out that same struggle in his rivalry against the Jericho Appreciation Society. Recently, Bryan Danielson had a 2 out of 3 Falls Match against Daniel Garcia. Road Dogg commented on this match and stated that Garcia is a performer that will likely get over due to his work ethic and his body of work.

“They had a heck of a match, I tell you what. Those two beat the tar out of each other. If that’s what you’re into, you were dang sure into that one, because that’s just good ol’ pro rasslin’,” said Dogg. “Guys like [Daniel Garcia] whose work gets them over. You don’t see him as a character, as a larger than life, jumping off the screen at me, he’s not that guy. But, his work gets him over and look, you can say that for a lot of people now, but he’s got it a strong worth ethic and he works hard.”

These days, Road Dogg appears to be heading back to work for WWE in a new executive position. Learn more about that at this link.
