Ricky Starks Says He Gets Messages From Fans Thinking He’s Retired Because He’s Not Wrestling Enough

Ricky Starks is on AEW television every week as one of the announcers on AEW Rampage.

Though he’s embraced the commentary role, and has received great reviews from fans, Starks once again wants to make it clear that he’s still putting wrestling first and doesn’t want fans thinking he’s retired from in-ring competition.

“I get a lot of messages asking if I’m retired and that shit is hurtful. That sucks to hear, fans asking if I’m retired because they don’t see me (in the ring) enough. I don’t ever want the sun to go down on me in that sense. I like doing commentary on Rampage, but I don’t want people to forget that I’m still active. I don’t want people to think I’m some young retiree because I’m doing commentary, which is what happens. Most people doing commentary are winding down on their career,” Starks told Emilio Sparks on Wrestle Rap.

Starks most recently wrestled on the April 19 episode of AEW Dark when he teamed with Powerhouse Hobbs to defeat The Dark Order (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson).

Starks offered further comment on his commentary gig, saying, “That’s the easy part is having that tool. I have it in my back pocket. It is cool and really awesome, especially for after my career. After the wrestling is done, I will have had that experience that I can kick back up. It’s tough, but it’s fun at the same time.”

Starks will be in the commentary booth on the April 29 episode of AEW Dynamite. Fans can check out the lineup for the show by clicking here

Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Rampage beginning at 10 p.m. ET on Friday.
