Ricky Starks: I’d Love To Be AEW Champion; Every Time I Make A Goal, It Never Goes The Way I Envisioned
Ricky Starks talks about his goals, circumstances preventing him from achieving his goals, and going with the flow.
During a recent interview with Forbes, Ricky Starks opened up about wanting to one day wrestle Kenny Omega and how that hasn’t happened yet.
Starks and Big Bill were supposed to face Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho at AEW Worlds End for the AEW World Tag Team Championship but Kenny’s battle with diverticulitis prevented that.
Starks noted that he has frequently had to shift gears away from his goals
“I’ve publicly gone on record and said how much I want to wrestle Kenny Omega, and maybe I need to stop doing that because every time I talk about someone I want to wrestle publicly, it changes.”
One of Starks’ major goals is to become AEW World Champion. While discussing this goal, he noted that no goals he ever speaks out loud end up going the way he envisions them.
“I had someone ask me my goal and I can’t tell you because every time I make one it changes immediately.” Starks added, “I would love to say I have goals, but I really don’t. Obviously, I’d love to be AEW World Champion, but every time I make a goal, it never ends up going the way I had envisioned it. So, I think I’m gonna try something different.”
In the spirit of trying to control what he can, Starks put over the fact that he has creative freedom in AEW but also said that he is someone who likes outlines and structure as well.
“There’s a lot of things I have input on, but also it’s good to have structure. I’m a person that loves having structure and outlines as well.”
Starks recently spotlighted the “all for one and one for all” spirit of AEW. Read his comments here.
Starks will next defend the AEW Tag Team Championship alongside Big Bill against Darby Allin and Sting on the February 7 episode of AEW Dynamite. Learn more here.
