Rich Swann Speaks On A Potential Champion vs. Champion Match Against Kenny Omega
Rich Swann would love to meet Kenny Omega in a one-on-one meeting of World Champions.
Since December, Kenny Omega and Don Callis have been blurring the lines and merging the worlds of IMPACT and All Elite Wrestling together as Kenny has shown up on several episodes of IMPACT on AXS, reunited with Gallows and Anderson, and will now even step inside the ring at IMPACT Hard To Kill on pay-per-view.
Rich Swann, the IMPACT World Champion, has a lot to prove through this working agreement with AEW as he sits as the top player in a promotion that is often seen as the perpetual underdog in the world of professional wrestling.
Although he is looking forward to stepping in the ring with Kenny Omega on January 16, Rich Swann tells Inside The Ropes that he hopes for a one-on-one encounter with “The Cleaner” at some point in the future.
“In this match that’s about to be unfolding, you’ve got World Champions from both companies. I’d like to say — and I don’t know; no one has told me anything otherwise. But I’d like to say that this match will not be the end: this will only be the beginning of an IMPACT/AEW relationship. Don’t count anything out: anything can happen in this industry, as we’ve already proven,” said Swann.
In regards to an actual one-on-one encounter, Swann hopes to prove that he is on the same level as the wrestler that many people consider to be the best in the world today.
“That’s something I would totally look forward to having. I believe the very first time I met [Kenny Omega] was in 2012 in Dragon Gate/ DDT. They did a collaboration show, and he always had respect. Just to have this opportunity to be in this six-man alone is going to show people that I can be at that type of level. And then that’s going to show everybody that, “Hey, we need to see this match, even more, the one-on-one encounter between Kenny Omega and Rich Swann.” Because I feel that I can be on his level, and the only way you can prove that is if you get in the ring with those guys.”
Kenny Omega will face Rich Swann at IMPACT Hard To Kill on Saturday, January 16, when they are on opposite ends of a tag team match, which has seen a switch in the lineup at the eleventh hour. Learn more at this link.
