Rhea Ripley: Charlotte And I Wanted To Prove With A Proper Build, We Could Have Main Evented WM 39
Rhea Ripley reflects on WrestleMania 39 bout with Charlotte Flair.
Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair turned in one of the best women’s bouts of the year when they clashed for the WWE Women’s World Championship (formerly the WWE Raw Women’s Championship).
Though Charlotte and Rhea were hoping to earn the main event spot on night one as Rhea won the women’s Royal Rumble, Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens vs. The Usos (Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso) with the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles on the line ended up going on last thanks in large part to the Bloodline story.
Speaking to Sam Roberts on NotSamWrestling, Ripley was asked if the mentality was, “we have to take this.”
“Yeah. I think, especially because the build up to WrestleMania wasn’t exactly how I imagined it. The mentality that I had, and I think Charlotte had because I felt it out there, we wanted to go into that match and leave everything we had in that ring. We didn’t want to leave with any energy, anything feeling half decent. We just wanted to go out there and steal the show. Normally, when you win the Rumble, you get the main event spot. Build wasn’t there, other one was, completely understand it. I think the boys really deserved that main event spot. We wanted to go out there and prove that, with a proper build, we could have had that spot and we could have stolen the whole entire show and knocked it off with such a perfect match. That’s what we did. We went out there and absolutely destroyed each other,” she said.
Ripley was victorious in the WrestleMania 39 bout, kicking off her reign that is still going to this day.
Elsewhere during the interview, Ripley commented on becoming “Mami.” You can find her full comments by clicking here.
