Rhea Ripley: Buddy Matthews Knows Mami Is Always On Top; If I’m Winning, He’s Winning

Buddy Matthews knows Mami is on top.

Rhea Ripley and Buddy Matthews may work for different promotions, but their relationship has been going strong since at least 2022.

“Being in the relationship that I am with my partner, we’re both wrestlers. So, we scrap a little bit. Just for fun. I always start it, and I finish it,” Rhea said with a laugh on Impaulsive with Logan Paul

Asked if their “scraps” ever get serious, Rhea replied, “No. I’m also stubborn. He put me in a triangle choke. He put me in it and was like, ‘just tap.’ ‘No.’ He slowly got tighter. His manhood was on the line. He slowly got it tighter. I was like, ‘No.’ It got to the point where he got to tired, he had to let go a little, and that’s where I overpowered him and I got out of it and pinned him to the ground.”

With Rhea being in WWE and Buddy being in AEW, Rhea was asked if they ever battle over promotional supremacy.

“No, not really. He knows Mami is always on top,” she said with a laugh. “He loves it. It doesn’t make him feel a negative way. He’s happy for me and he knows how far I can go in this company and how far his limitations are as well. It’s a male dominated sport. There are only so many females in it. If you really show you’re different and connect with the crowd in a certain way, you’re going to skyrocket to the top. For him, he’s been in WWE, he’s been wrestling for over ten years, maybe 15. He knows in WWE he hit a peak and in AEW he’s doing well and it’s slowly growing. House of Black is slowly growing and getting more steam, but he knows at the end of the day, the platform that I’m on, this might make people mad, but it’s obviously higher. He doesn’t get threatened by that. I take his word and I trust him. He’s very comfortable in what he’s doing and who I am. He also loves to help me along the way and help me grow, which is what a relationship is. If I’m winning, he’s winning.”

Ripley is currently winning in WWE as the reigning WWE Women’s World Championship, a title she’s held since WrestleMania 39.

Elsewhere during the interview, Rhea commented on Dominik Mysterio’s rise. You can find her full comments by clicking here.
