Soccer Player Grant Holt Makes His Wrestling Debut; Pays Homage To Shawn Michaels’ 1995 Royal Rumble Win

Bringing his abilities to the squared circle.

Over the years there have been many successful transitions for athletes who come from other sports to pro wrestling. From the MMA world alone, names like Dan Severn, “Filthy” Tom Lawlor, Matt Riddle, former NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler and UFC Hall Of Famers Ken Shamrock and Ronda Rousey have all found success in wrestling.

Recently, the pro wrestling game gained an athlete from the Soccer side of the sports world as retired professional soccer player and three-time winner of the Norwich City player of the year award Grant Holt made his in-ring debut. Holt retired from Futbol just last month and it was soon unveiled that he was training to dip his hands into professional wrestling. Holt had his first official match with Britain’s ‘World Association Of Wrestling’ promotion.

Holt entered in at the #40 spot in a 40-person Battle Royal and emerged victorious. The in-ring performers paid tribute to the 1995 Royal Rumble when Shawn Michaels appeared to have been eliminated but he willed himself back up and tossed out British Bulldog.

The buck does not stop there for Grant Holt as he has a date booked for 2019 with ‘WAW’ and he will team up with the owner of the promotion Ricky Knight who is the father of SmackDown Live GM Paige. Holt and Knight will face former WAW World Tag Team Champions Kosta K and Malik.
