Report: WWE Raw, SmackDown, AEW Dynamite Up For Emmy Nomination
Pro wrestling is one step closer to being up for an emmy.
According to a report from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE main Brands, Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown, as well as AEW Dynamite are all up for nomination this year in the “Outstanding Structured Reality Program” category.
WWE has expressed in the past that one of their major goals is to win an Emmy for their programming, feeling that their structured programming holds up against any program on television.
According to The Observer, the listing for Monday Night Raw promotes its unpredictability and larger-than-life characters.
Raw delivers live, edge-of-your-seat action, larger-than-life characters and unpredictable drama for three hours every Monday night.
SmackDown, which just celebrated its 20th-anniversary upon moving to Fox, is listed as having more than 1000 episodes under its belt.
For more than 20 years and with more than 1,000 episodes, SmackDown has showcased WWE’s top Superstars and created countless memorable moments.
Dynamite, which has only been in existence for a little more than six months, focuses on its credible roster when highlighting why it should be up for an Emmy.
AEW is a global wrestling league featuring a world class roster of diverse male and female wrestlers, giving fans the first new wrestling experience in 20 years. AEW is headlined by Cody & Brandi Rhodes, Chris Jericho, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Hangman Page and Jon Moxley.
Shortly after signing Ronda Rousey in 2018, WWE held its first “For Your Consideration” presentation, advocating for why they should be nominated for an Emmy. 2020 could be the year that professional wrestling takes the next step into entertainment.
