Report: WWE Is Interested In Licensing Broken Universe Content From Impact Wrestling
WWE could be using some of Impact Wrestling's footage.
PWInsider reported several sources at Impact Wrestling said WWE has shown interest in content from Matt Hardy's "Broken Universe." While at Impact Wrestling, Hardy produced segments and full-length Impact Wrestling episodes involving his "Broken" Matt Hardy character and the character's family.
When Hardy left Impact Wrestling he used the character in independent wrestling promotions. He was immediately at odds with Anthem Sports and Entertainment, who owns Impact Wrestling, about the intellectual property rights of the character. When Hardy arrived at WWE, he was no longer the Broken character.
As WWE and Hardy became closer to settling with Anthem, his character shifted until he became the very similar "Woken" Matt Hardy. Despite Hardy owning the character now, Impact Wrestling owns all of the footage which was primarily Hardy's creation.
PWInsider also said WWE is working on a network special and DVD about Matt Hardy and his brother Jeff Hardy. But the reason for WWE being reportedly interested in the Impact Wrestling footage is unknown.
Fightful Wrestling will continue to provide updates on any negotiations between WWE and Impact Wrestling.
