Report: Three Documentaries Being Filmed Backstage At Royal Rumble 2021
WWE Network staff is working on all new content at this year’s Royal Rumble.
According to a report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, WWE Network staff is backstage at today’s Royal Rumble event filming documentary content for upcoming releases based on Edge, Bill Goldberg, and Big E.
At last year’s Royal Rumble event, Edge returned to action after 10 years of retirement. In the lead up to this, WWE filmed a WWE: 24 documentary special about the surrounding events leading to him coming back. Edge will be coming back again tonight after half a year on the shelf with a torn triceps.
Goldberg was recently the subject of a WWE Untold documentary about his time in WCW. Tonight, Goldberg looks to become the first WWE Superstar to win the WWE Championship, the World Heavyweight Championship, and the WWE Universal Championship when he challenges Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble.
Big E, the current WWE Intercontinental Champion, is in the middle of his first singles run in six years as a member of the Friday Night SmackDown roster. Tonight, he is in the WWE Royal Rumble match. To date, the incumbent Intercontinental Champion has never won the Royal Rumble match. Big E looks to change that tonight.
Reportedly, there may be other projects that will utilize documentary footage filmed at the event but those are the current focus for today’s filming.
Fightful will have live coverage of WWE Royal Rumble.
