Report: Takeshi Morishima Arrested Under Suspicion Of Assaulting A Taxi Driver

Potentially bad news for the Japanese legend.

Yahoo Japan and other media outlets in Japan are reporting that Takeshi Morishima has been arrested under the suspicion of assaulting a taxi driver. According to Shinjuku police, Morishima refused to pay a charge of 18,000 yen (roughly $159). Morishima reportedly beat the face of the taxi driver, causing broken cheekbones.

Morishima accepted charges and owned up to there being a dispute.

The former ROH and GHC Champion retired from the ring in 2015, citing “poor mental and physical state.” He was training for a return on his 40th birthday this past October, but fell ill with sepsis, which put him in the hospital from late September until middle October. It was previously reported that Morishima was still hoping for a comeback run at some point in the spring of 2019.

Morishima is best known to US fans for his ROH run in 2007. He won the ROH World Title from Homicide in February 2007. His feud with Daniel Bryan during that year produced a handful of classic bouts between the two. Morishima also wrestled two WWE dark matches in August 2008.
