Report: Mercedes Mone ‘Circled’ For Role In Bad Bunny Spider-Man Spinoff Before Project Was Removed
Mercedes Mone (Mercedes Varnado) looked at for a film role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony was “circling professional wrestler Mercedes Varnado for a role” in ‘El Muerto,’ a Spider-Man spinoff starring Bad Bunny.
Unfortunately, Sony announced that the project is currently off its release schedule. It was slated to be released on January 12, 2024, but had not started shooting. The report states, “the project fell victim to the ongoing writers strike; the script needed additional work as of mid-spring but services could not be done in time.”
Jonás Cuarón was tabbed as the director. It would have been the first live-action Marvel project to star a Latino character.
It is unknown if the project will resume as Bad Bunny’s touring schedule is reportedly a factor in the project moving forward.
Mercedes is currently sidelined with an ankle injury that she suffered at NJPW Resurgence. It is unknown when she will return to the ring.
Outside of wrestling, Mercedes stars in Star Wars: The Mandalorian.
