REPORT: Major Rumored Mania Match No Longer In The Works; Who Will Face The Undertaker?
If you've been waiting your whole life to see John Cena vs The Undertaker for the WWE Title at Wrestlemania, you may have to wait a little longer.
Cena vs. Taker is no longer in the works for WrestleMania 33, according to a new report by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It appears that Vince McMahon has changed his mind.
There's been speculation about Taker challenging for a title at WrestleMania but as of this week, that's not the plan. So no Rumble win for the Deadman.
A bout between Taker and Braun Strowman has also been rumored, but that match is also not in the cards, at least for right now.
The Observer also reported that there will be six or seven major main event level singles matches on the show this year. This doesn't even include the Women's or Cruiserweight matches.
Again, the locked in matches for Mania are as follows:
- Triple H vs Seth Rollins
- Big Show vs Shaq
- Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar
That's it. That's the list. The last one there is expected to be the main event, by the way. All of this is still according to The Observer.
Kevin Owens vs. WWE United States Champion Chris Jericho looks like it's almost certainly going to take place, but there are several top Superstars without current mania plans.
These include:
- Cena
- Current WWE Champion AJ Styles
- Roman Reigns
- Current WWE Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose
- The Miz
- The returning former Universal Champion Finn Balor.
This is to say nothing of the semi-main-event level talent, guys such as Strowman, Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton, Baron Corbin, Rusev and others. Some of the Smackdown guys could end up with Ambrose in a multi-man Intercontinental Title match, maybe even another ladder match.
