Report: Jon Moxley Originally Set To Team With Shota Umino On NJPW Strong

It was set to be a father and son reunion on the May 7 episode of NJPW Strong.

According to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Jon Moxley and Shota Umino were set to team on the May 7 edition of NJPW Strong, but an injury to Umino took him out of the match. Moxley reportedly requested Chris Dickinson as his tag team partner for the match against Ren Narita & Yuji Nagata.

Moxley took Umino under his wing after they wrestled at NJPW Dominion 2019. The two regularly teamed together during the 2019 G1 Climax on nights when Moxley was not competing in the tournament.

Umino left NJPW for excursion in September 2019, joining Revolution Pro and competing for other promotions overseas including ATTACK! and Over The Top Wrestling.

Unfortunately, the pandemic cut plans short for Umino and he hasn’t wrestled since March 14, 2020 when he teamed with Kid Lykos II & Kyle Fletcher to defeat The Anti-Fun Police (Chief Deputy Dunne & Los Federales Santos Jr.) at ATTACK! Road To Sacrifice.

Umino is set to return to RevPro this summer. Moxley remains the IWGP United States Champion.

It is unknown when the NJPW father and son duo will finally re-unite.
