Report: John Cena vs. Elias Being Planned For WrestleMania 36

With John Cena making his return to WWE television in the coming weeks, a potential match at WrestleMania is already being planned out.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Cena is slated to wrestle at WrestleMania later this year and then Meltzer said he was told that Cena would be wrestling Elias. WWE has yet to comment or officially announce the match or Cena’s involvement in the show. This reported match was first mentioned by Andrew Zarian on the Mat Men Podcast on February 15

This wouldn’t be the first time he and Elias would interact at WrestleMania, but it would be the first time the two would face off in a match at the annual show. At WrestleMania 34, Cena and Elias had a brief confrontation while at WrestleMania 35, Cena made a surprise return as his “Doctor of Thuganomics” persona and interrupted Elias’ concert.

Cena is currently scheduled to return to the February 28 episode of SmackDown, his first appearance on the show since early January 2019. The last time Cena had a match was on Raw back in January 2019 when he lost a fatal four-way to Finn Balor. Since then, Cena has largely focused on his multiple movie roles and television commitments.

WrestleMania 36 is taking place on April 5 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Fightful will have live coverage of the entire event.
