Report: Decision On Goldberg vs. Drew McIntyre At WWE Royal Rumble Made On January 2
Things reportedly moved fast for Goldberg.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the decision to go with Goldberg vs. Drew McIntyre at WWE Royal Rumble was made on Saturday, January 2.
Goldberg made a surprising return to WWE television to close WWE Raw Legends Night on Monday. In his return, Goldberg challenged McIntyre to WWE Championship bout at Royal Rumble, claiming McIntyre has no respect for any of the legends.
WWE had been teasing a match between Roman Reigns and Goldberg since October when they showed Goldberg in the ThunderDome during Reigns’ match against Braun Strowman. In December, Goldberg appeared on The Bump and called out Reigns for stealing his move. It was reported in December that Goldberg vs. Reigns was planned for WrestleMania 37.
The two men were scheduled to meet at WrestleMania 36, but Goldberg ended up facing Strowman after Reigns skipped WrestleMania 36 due to COVID-19 concerns.
Goldberg still has two years left on his WWE contract at two matches per year.
WWE has yet to confirm the Royal Rumble bout between Goldberg and McIntyre.
