Report: Finish To Payback Women’s Title Match Changed Four Times In Final 30 Hours
When Alexa Bliss pinned Bayley at Payback last Sunday, she made history as the first Superstar to win both the Raw and the SmackDown Women's Titles.
But that almost didn't happen.
According the the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the booked finish was changed 4 times in the final 30 hours before the match began.
As of Saturday, the plan was still for Bayley to retain the belt in her hometown of San Jose. The booking changed to a Bliss victory very early Sunday morning, then back to Bayley in the afternoon, then back to Bliss in the final hours before bell time.
That means that when Bayley filmed this video, greeting her hometown fans, she was possibly under the impression that she was going to win the match:
There has been no report on why exactly officials were so indecisive about the finish. The WON does report that Bayley is likely to get her rematch at Extreme Rules in Baltimore on April 4th, but nothing has been confirmed.
