Renee Young: I’m Always Open To Learning And Criticism

Renee Young is learning on the fly.

Current WWE Raw broadcaster Renee Young has received mostly positive reviews for her work alongside Corey Graves and Michael Cole. But there is always one or two people out there who are quick to criticize. On July 28, Young let a fan get to her on Twitter and admitted her flaws on commentary.

She wrote, “Here’s the truth. I know im not great on commentary, but it’s my job. I try to get better each week. People love to tell me how bad I am at it as if I think I’m great at it. So I should just quit? What would that say about me?Not easy to learn a skill on a gigantic global tv show. Well a lot of people say that but don’t realize that Talking Smack and raw commentary are completely different jobs. I’m a tv host and have been for a decade- so talking smack was my jam- commentary’s entirely different. Different skills.”

Many wrestlers came to her defense in the moment.

In a recent interview with Alicia Atout, Young admitted that she let the criticism of one person get to her, but appreciated those who stood by her.

“I was really surprised at how much, me just being honest about it, how people reacted. I think actually talking from my heart really got to people.”

On the subject of her commentary, Young said, “When I first started hosting, it didn’t go anywhere. I had shows that I did on small cable networks, but no one really saw me. So I could figure my stuff out without people seeing it. But now, doing commentary, prior to me filling in and taking over, I wasn’t groomed for that spot. I wasn’t at NXT or in the booth doing it. I’m learning this entirely new skill on Monday Night Raw. There’s good days and bad days. I’m always open to learning and open to criticism.”

Young will reportedly host to upcoming WWE studio show on Fox Sports 1
