Raven: I’m Not A Fan Of Intergender Wrestling, But Impact Wrestling Is Being Strategic About It

With intergender wrestling starting to become more and more common, a number of wrestling figures, including Raven, gave their opinions on the matter.

Raven, a former WWF Hardcore and WCW United States champion, said he’s not really a fan of intergender wrestling. He explained his reasoning as it looking like spousal abuse and not because he doesn’t believe that women aren’t on the same level as male wrestlers.

“I’m not a fan of intergender matches for the simple fact that it looks like spousal abuse. I think there’s a problem, and I’m not saying that women aren’t as good as men, not saying that women can’t be better than men. I just think that the size difference and men beating up on women is a bad look, especially in the Me Too Movement. It’s not a good look,” Raven told Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture.

The most recent example of a big intergender match on a major promotion was the Sami Callihan vs. Tessa Blanchard match for the Impact World Championship at the “Hard to Kill” pay-per-view from January 12. Although Raven isn’t a fan of intergender wrestling, he does admit that Impact Wrestling is “being strategic” over the way it has tackled the matter.

“Then again, I think Impact is being strategic with this because they wanted to do something different to set themselves apart. I’ll reserve judgment on it until I’ve seen because I haven’t seen it. All I’m going by is my initial gut reaction, I don’t watch the current product except AEW. I don’t want to preach about something I don’t know of,” Raven said.
