Raven Discusses His Short Run In AJPW, Says He Had An Offer To Come Back
Raven discusses his small stint with All Japan Pro Wrestling.
Throughout his illustrious career, Raven has worked with nearly every major company that has ever existed including WWE, ECW, WCW, TNA, NWA, and ROH. Before he became a big name in wrestling, Raven had a three week stint in All Japan Pro Wrestling under the ring name of Scotty The Body.
During that run, Raven was able to work legends like Kenta Kobashi, Mitsuharu Misawa, and Stan Hansen. In a new interview with Fightful, Raven discussed his time with AJPW and said that he wasn’t really a big fan of Japan’s style of wrestling.
“It was three weeks. I was working in Portland Wrestling at the time. They called me up, asked me to do it. I said, ‘Sure.’ But I’ve never been a big fan of the Japan style because it wasn’t about spots and storytelling,. It was more about athleticism. I got in it for the storytelling. Baba even asked me to come back at the end of the tour when he was paying me and then I never followed up on it because as long as I had a job here, I didn’t care. Although I ended up going back five times for five other companies. People would say, ‘Hey, here’s a show. We got one shot,’ or a two / three day show or whatever. But three weeks was too long for me anyway, you know?”
After his run with AJPW, Raven returned to Japan to work select dates with WING, IWA Japan, and FMW.
Elsewhere in the interview, Raven discussed Rhyno’s spear into a shopping cart that happened back in 2001. To see more, click here.
