Randy Orton Consoled Shane McMahon’s Family During Survivor Series Match
After Shane McMahon was legitimately injured during the five-on-five men's elimination match at Survivor Series, Randy Orton broke character to go inform McMahon's family that he was OK.
McMahon was injured taking a spear from Roman Reigns in the latter portion of the Raw vs. Smackdown elimination match. McMahon appeared to be knocked unconscious, and the referee ruled him eliminated from the match rather than complete the three count on the pin attempt by Reigns. Officials tended to McMahon in the ring after he was eliminated, during which time Orton apparently broke character and walked over to McMahon's wife and son, seated ringside.
The moment was captured on social media:
Orton turned heel earlier this fall, aligning himself with Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper in the Wyatt Family.
Orton, Wyatt, and McMahon were part of the Smackdown team, which was rounded out by WWE World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose. Raw was represented by Reigns, Seth Rollins, Universal Champion Kevin Owens, Chris Jeircho, and Braun Strowman. Smackdown won the match, as Wyatt was the sole survivor, last eliminating Reigns.
Orton missed Survivor Series last year, as he was out recuperating following surgery to repair a shoulder injury. He returned to television this summer after an absence of approximately nine months.
