Randy Colley, Moondog Rex & Original Smash Of Demolition, Passes Away At 69
Randy Colley, better known as Moondog Rex has passed away. He was 69 years old.
Randy Colley is best known for his time in the territories as one of The Moondogs. Winning the WWE Tag Team Championships in 1980, as well as becoming a two-time NWA Georgia Tag Team Champion, a one-time AWA Southern Tag Team Champion, and a three-time USWA World Tag Team Champion. The Moondogs would spend the majority of their time in the Memphis territory.
Randy Colley is also credited with being the one to come up with the idea for the demolition tag team in the WWF in the year 1987. Colley was originally slated to be Smash of Demolition but would be replaced by Barry Darsow almost immediately when it was determined that the audience could see right through the new gimmick and was chanting “Moondog” at the former champion.
