Pretty Deadly: The New Day Ruined Our Lives, Maybe Kofi Kingston’s Injury Was Karma
Pretty Deadly discusses working with the New Day.
Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince) discusses working with the New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods).
The New Day returned to NXT in December 2022 and quickly defeated Pretty Deadly to win the NXT Tag Team Championship at NXT Deadline 2022. Kingston and Woods lost the titles in a four-way match at NXT Vengeance Day 2023, and the end of their reign marked the conclusion of their time in NXT. Kingston subsequently injured his ankle on the March 5 episode of SmackDown, and he had surgery on March 17.
Speaking with Jim Varsallone of the Miami Herald, Prince and Wilson were asked to discuss their experience working with the New Day. The duo initially gave the veterans credit, as Wilson noted that it was an honor to share the ring with them. Both Wilson and Prince made it clear that they have looked up to the New Day for years.
Kit Wilson: Yes, technically it’s an honor to be in the ring with them. Technically, we grew up watching them. Technically, they are inspirations and role models in the tag team division.
Elton Prince: Technically, we’ve looked up to them for years and think they’re brilliant.
Wilson and Prince went on to describe how the New Day ruined their lives. Prince noted that the duo took their babies, the NXT Tag Team Championship, away. In doing so, he stated that they stole their joy and their purpose. He explained that the way Kingston and Woods simply went back to their “merry lives” after their brief NXT run hurt the most. Wilson then suggested that Kingston’s ankle injury might have been karma.
KW: However, the New Day came to NXT when they shouldn’t have and ruined our lives.
EP: We had our babies, didn’t we? Our babies, we carried them for months and months. Then they just took it away. Took it away. Took our joy away, took our purpose away.
KW: it’s been a downhill, downward spiral since.
EP: it’s been a real rough journey. You know what hurts most? They know what they’ve done. There’s no remorse, there’s no regret, there’s no guilt. They’re off living their merry lives now. ‘Oh, let’s go down, ruin Pretty Deadly’s lives and then carry on as normal.
KW: I’ll say this. Maybe Kofi, recently [got hurt], I don’t want to say it, but it’s karma.
EP: Maybe.
