Otis Wasn’t Sure Switching To Trunks Would Look Good On Camera
Otis has quickly ascended up the ranks in WWE, going from a tag team comedy act to Mr. Money in the Bank in just over a year on the main roster. Otis has captured audiences with his personality and willingness to standout despite perhaps not looking ideal to what we’ve come to expect WWE superstars to look like.
During his early run with Heavy Machinery, Otis would wear the double strapped “butcher” gear, but eventually, the straps were removed and he began wrestling in just trunks to really showcase his physique.
Speaking on Chasing Glory, Otis recalled WWE’s decision to move him into trunks.
“The belly, we used to wear the butchers (strapped gear) with the high crotch. But they wanted me to go to trunks and I had never worn trunks. I don’t have a lot of insecurities, but in my head I’m thinking, ‘That’s not going to look good on camera. I’ve got a shaky belly.’ They said, ‘Do your thing, just do it in trunks.’ We were at Madison Square Garden, my first time at the Garden, and I said, ‘We can’t go straight to the underwear, we’ve got to do something.’ I said, ‘How about this, we do the comeback, and I will slowly strip down and have a pair of normal trunks under the butcher.’ I’ve been such a big guy for a long time, so it doesn’t phase me,” he said.
Otis has made the trunks work for him, catching the eye of Mandy Rose on television, leading to one of the most popular love stories in WWE history.
