This will be O’Reilly’s second attempt at wrestling for the NXT Championship as he unsuccessfully challenged Balor for the belt at NXT TakeOver 31 on October 4.
Since then, O’Reilly and Undisputed ERA had been feuding with Pat McAfee’s stable, which also included Dunne. The two factions faced off in a WarGames match at TakeOver: WarGames in which Undisputed ERA emerged victorious.
Later in the show, it was announced that Karrion Kross will take on Damian Priest at New Year’s Evil. It was also revealed that Dexter Lumis will be the host of New Year’s Evil.
