NXT Championship Changes Hands At NXT TakeOver 36

The NXT Championship was on the line at NXT TakeOver 36.

It was two months ago that Samoa Joe returned to NXT TV after having been released by WWE in April. Initially working alongside General Manager William Regal, Joe tenured his resignation in late July so that he could face Karrion Kross for the NXT Title at TakeOver 36 and get revenge on the Champion for his attack on Regal.

The two men main evented TakeOver 36, with this being Joe’s first match since the February 10, 2020 episode of WWE Raw. Kross had plenty of opportunities to retain his belt, the best of which came with Joe locked in his Kross Jacket submission. In the end, though, it was Samoa Joe who emerged victoriously, capturing the NXT Championship for the third time.

Karrion Kross’s second reign with the NXT Championship began on April 8th at night two of TakeOver: Stand & Deliver and is now finished after 136 days.
