NXT Breakout Tournament Announced, Winner Gets Title Shot Of Their Choosing
WWE’s take on the Top Prospect Tournament has been announced.
NXT General Manager William Regal revealed on this week’s episode of NXT TV that the NXT Breakout Tournament would kick off next week. Regal would also confirm the participants of the single-elimination tournament, as well as their new WWE names.
The tournament consists of talent who haven’t made their presence felt on NXT TV, with the winner gaining a title shot of their choosing. You can learn more about the participants below.
Jordan Myles: Formerly known as ACH, Myles has appeared for New Japan Pro Wrestling, Impact, AAA, Evolve, but is best known for his work in Ring of Honor
Boa: A recruit from China, Boa has some experience in submission wrestling and was signed by WWE in 2017.
Cameron Grimes: Formerly known as Trevor Lee, Grimes was the key cog in Impact Wrestling’s X-Division machine for quite some time, becoming a three-time champion. He also won the company’s tag titles with Curt Hawkins.
Isaiah “Swerve” Scott: Formerly known as Shane Strickland and Killshot, Strickland was a highly sought out free agent. He gained popularity in Lucha Underground, winning the Trios Titles twice, and moved on to MLW where he won their MLW World Heavyweight Title tournament.
Dexter Lumis: Formerly known as Sam Shaw, his new name is a play on the serial killer-esque role he played in TNA Wrestling. You may also remember his voice from early episodes of NWA Ten Pounds Of Gold.
Bronson Reed: Formerly Jonah Rock, Bronson is a longtime standout on the Australian wrestling scene, as well as a veteran of PROGRESS, Rev Pro, NOAH, WxW, and PWG.
Angel Garza: Better known as Garza Jr., he’s also appeared for AAA, The Crash and Impact Wrestling, where he would regularly team with NXT’s Humberto Carrillo.
Joaquin Wilde: Formerly DJZ, he spent seven years gaining national exposure for TNA/Impact Wrestling, on his way to two X-Division titles, and one tag title reign.
