NXT & AEW Viewership Up With Great American Bash & Fyter Fest Specials; NXT Outdraws AEW

Both NXT and AEW saw viewership increase with special shows this week.

According to Showbuzz Daily, the July 1 episode of NXT, which was the first night of the Great American Bash, averaged 792,000 viewers, which is slightly up from last week’s 786,000 viewers. This is the most NXT has drawn since February 19 when that episode drew 794,000 viewers and is the second-most watched episode in 2020.

AEW this week saw the start of Fyter Fest and it averaged 748,000 viewers, up from the 633,000 viewers the June 24 episode of Dynamite drew. This is the most AEW drew since the June 17 episode when Dynamite averaged 772,000 viewers.

In the 18-49 demographic, AEW still beat NXT in the ratings with AEW drawing a 0.29 rating (sixth best on cable for the day). NXT, on the other hand, finished with a 0.22 rating, good for 13th on cable for the day.

NXT saw Tegan Nox win a fatal four-way match against Dakota Kai, Mia Yim and Candice LeRae to become the No. 1 contender to the NXT Women’s Championship. Speaking of the title, NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai defeated Sasha Banks in the main event in a non-title match. The July 8 episode of NXT, the second night of the Great American Bash, will be headlined by Adam Cole vs. Keith Lee in a Winner Take All match for both the NXT and North American titles.

AEW Fyter Fest began with a tag team match between the team of Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy against the team of MJF and Wardlow. Three championship matches took place as AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida, TNT Champion Cody and AEW World Tag Team Champions Kenny Omega and Hangman Page all defended their respective titles.
