Nia Jax: The 2019 Royal Rumble Was The Highlight Of My Career Thus Far

At the 2019 Royal Rumble, Nia Jax shocked many by taking out R-Truth and entering the Men’s Royal Rumble at No. 30. During the match, Jax scored an elimination over Mustafa Ali before being hit with the 619 by Rey Mysterio and RKO by Randy Orton prior to her elimination.

Speaking to Sporting News, Jax discussed her cameo appearance in the Men’s Rumble.

“The Royal Rumble was on another level — probably the highlight of my career thus far,” stated Jax. “It was pretty incredible to compete in both the women’s and the men’s Rumble in one night, and not only that, but being able to share the ring with Randy Orton, Dolph Ziggler, Andrade, Rey Mysterio and have such a great — like you said — a viral moment. I’m sitting here like, ‘I don’t know if I could top that.'”

While most celebrated Jax’s appearance in the match, some — most notably boxing promoter Lou DiBella — criticized the company. DiBella went as far as to compare the spot to domestic violence. WWE seemingly had plans to continue Jax’s story with her male counterparts as the next night on Raw, Jax landed a cheap shot on Dean Ambrose, sending him out of the ring. An intergender bout was advertised between the two for a Feb. 22 live event, but WWE pulled the ad, calling it incorrect. The angle between Jax and Ambrose ended up going nowhere.

Instead, Jax was entered into the Elimination Chamber to challenge for the vacant Women’s Tag Team Titles.

“And then, of course, the WWE … we’re such a fast-moving ship, we go over stuff and before I get a chance to enjoy it, the next thing I get to be a part of is the Elimination Chamber,” said Jax. “That’s the first time I’ve ever been in an Elimination Chamber, so that was another moment where I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh.’ It’s incredible every time I get to do these things. To be in the ring and get RKO’d and 619’d, I’m like, ‘This is incredible.’ And then I go to Elimination Chamber, where I’m in a pod, I feel like everything keeps getting better and better. So, competing at Fastlane against Sasha and Bayley for the tag-team championship is just another exciting moment for Tamina and I, and I can’t wait.”

Jax and Tamina are scheduled to challenge Bayley & Sasha Banks for the Women’s Tag Team Titles this Sunday at WWE Fastlane.
