New NEVER Openweight Champion Crowned At NJPW Battle In The Valley
Jay White is no longer king.
Tomohiro Ishii captured the NEVER Openweight Championship at NJPW Battle in the Valley, defeating Jay White in the main event. The finish saw Ishii hit a dragon suplex followed by a lariat and closing with vertical drop brainbuster.
Had Ishii lost the bout, he would never be able to challenge for the NEVER Openweight Championship again.

This marks Ishii’s six reign as NEVER Openweight Champion. White captured the title on May 3 at NJPW Wrestling Dontaku 2021 by defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi. He made one successful defense of the title.
Ishii is set to team with Orange Cassidy against The Butcher & The Blade on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite.
