New Japan Returns To Long Beach, California In March With Strong Style Evolved Event
New Japan Pro Wrestling is set to return to the United States very soon — and in bigger fashion.
They announced this morning that they would return to the United States on March 25 with an event called Strong Style Evolved. It will be in Long Beach like the shows last summer, but instead of the Long Beach Convention Center, it will be at the Walter Pyramid, which is located on the campus of Long Beach State University It's a 5,000 seat arena, which is a little bit bigger than the Convention Center, which held around half that.
New Japan did not specify when tickets would go on sale, but Kevin Kelly on commentary indicated that they would be revealing that information soon.
New Japan brought two big shows to the Long Island Convention Center last year, the first time that they ever ran shows in the United States. Both shows featured talent from CMLL and Ring of Honor. It also featured a two day tournament to crown the first ever IWGP United States champion. Kenny Omega was the man who won the tournament, defeating Tomohiro Ishii in the finals to become the inagural champion.
Other matches on the two days had Hiroshi Tanahashi successfully defend the IWGP Intercontinental title against Billy Gunn, and Kazuchika Okada retaining the IWGP Heavyweight title against Cody.
