New Japan Pro Wrestling Announces That Yagi Tetsuhiro Is Retiring From Wrestling
New Japan with the update.
The 26-year old Yagi Tetsuhiro began his pro wrestling career in New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2017 under their Young Lion system. His first match came at ‘Lions Gate Project 5’ where he lost to Hirai Kawato who is currently on excursion in Mexico.
Tetsuhiro would be featured on a number of New Japan shows over the coming year such as the 2017 ‘Dominion’ pre-show, Lions Gate Project 6 and 7 and his first victory in New Japan came when he teamed up with the legendary Tiger Mask. Tetsuhiro was also a participant in the 2017 Young Lion Cup tournament. During the 2018 ‘Road To Wrestling Dontaku’ tour, Tetsuhiro unfortunately fractured his ulna which is a long bone in the forearm.
Yagi Tetsuhiro had not wrestled with the company since April of this year but New Japan recently provided an update on the upstart and noted that due to “personal reasons” Tetsuhiro will be retiring from wrestling.
Here’s the official announcement via NJPW.com:
“I am informed about Yagi Tetsuhiro, who belonged to Shin Nippon Pro Wrestling.
Yagi players decided to retire as a professional wrestler at this time due to personal reasons and decided to leave New Japan Wrestling as a result of discussions with the company.
Yagi debuted on the New Japan Wrestling on May 7, 2017. Although I was hoping for the future as a heavyweight fighter from the privileged physique, according to the wishes of the individual himself, I have already started aiming for new goals.
We apologize to all our fans for the sudden announcement.
Thank you very much for having Yagi players support a lot.”
On a related note, New Japan is gearing up for its ‘Road To Power Struggle’ tour and a number of matches including Chris Jericho’s first IWGP Intercontinental Title defense is scheduled for ‘Power Struggle’ on November 2nd. To view the current lineup for the event, click here.
