New IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Crowned At NJPW Dominion
The IWGP World Heavyweight Title is vacant no longer.
Shingo Takagi captured the title at NJPW Dominion, defeating Kazuchika Okada in the main event. The finish saw Shingo escape the tombstone to hit a dragon suplex following by a sliding forearm. Shingo then lifted up Okada and dropped him down with Last of the Dragon for the victory.
This marks Shingo’s first reign with the title. He is the third IWGP Heavyweight Champion in company history.
After the bout, Shingo called out Kota Ibushi, who defeated Jeff Cobb earlier in the night. Ibushi and Shingo agreed to a future IWGP World Heavyweight Title bout.

The belt was vacated by Will Ospreay on May 20 due to a neck injury. Ospreay defended the title in a hard-fought bout against Shingo at Wrestling Dontaku. Okada was scheduled to challenge for the title at NJPW Wrestle Grand Slam before the event was postponed.
