NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Title Match Added To New Japan Road Night Three

Hiroshi Tanahashi is getting a title match while celebrating 20 years wrestling for New Japan Pro Wrestling.

NJPW announced that Tanahashi, Tomoaki Honma and YOSHI-HASHI will challenge Togi Makabe, Ryusuke Taguchi and Toru Yano for the NEVER Openweight Six-man Tag Team titles on October 7 on the third day of the New Japan Road tour at Korakuen Hall.

The news came after the trio of Tanahashi, Honma and YOSHI-HASHI defeated the NEVER six-man champions on October 4 at a New Japan Road show in Takaoka. The October 7 match was originally going to be a non-title match, but that changed after the champions were pinned. The show also serves as a celebration of Tanahashi wrestling for NJPW since 1999.

From NJPW:

“NEVER Openweight 6 Man Tag Championships at stake in Tanahashi anniversary match.

This Monday in Korakuen Hall, New Japan Road sees live action return to NJPW World!

One of the biggest matches of the evening sees Hiroshi Tanahashi celebrate 20 years in NJPW, as he teams with Tomoaki Honma and YOSHI-HASHI against Togi Makabe, Ryusuke Taguchi and Toru Yano.

This was scheduled as a non-title match, but after the Tanahashi trio scored a win over the NEVER 6-Man champions in Takaoka Friday night, the decision has been made to put the titles on the line!

Will the Taguchi Japan squad score a record fourth consecutive defense? Or will new champions be born in Korakuen?

Find out Monday night!”
