Natalya Opens Up About The Passing Of “Mean” Gene Okerlund, Shares Her Favorite Memories Of Gene
Natalya puts together a lengthy post about “Mean” Gene Okerlund.
WWE Hall Of Famer and legendary interviewer “Mean” Gene Okerlund passed away at the age of 76 on January 2nd. The wrestling world came out in full force to show the love that they have for Gene upon his passing and shared some of his best moments from his career in the wrestling business. Following tonight’s episode of WWE RAW, a special entitled ‘Let Me Tell Something Gene’ will air on the WWE Network at 11 PM EST which will feature superstars from the past and present talking about the man and the professional that “Mean” Gene Okerlund was.
Former SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Natalya dedicated her latest blog post on the Calgary Sun to Gene Okerlund and reflected on some of her fondest memories of the late WWE Hall Of Famer:
The day Gene passed away, I pulled up old footage of some of his most notorious interviews. There were so many hilarious interviews with the likes of Ric Flair, Bobby (The Brain) Heenan, Hulk Hogan and the British Bulldog. Of course, Gene’s “conversations” with the Hart Foundation had me cracking up! There was one interview during which Gene was talking with my dad, Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, and Bret Hart, talking about how they were going to beat the Killer Bees in the ring once and for all!
They were talking in great detail and comparing them to bumblebees, saying they were going to “take their wings off.” Gene looked like he was about ready to burst out laughing and called my dad “one sick puppy!” Gene added during the interview, “Stu Hart would be ashamed of you!” Then Bret chimed to say, “Actually, Stu loves what we do!” My dad, Bret and Jimmy Hart looked like they were having the time of their lives and that had a lot to do with Gene. He made everyone feel comfortable to be themselves and have fun while still telling a story.
On top of writing her articles, Nattie is also preparing for the Royal Rumble match that she is partaking in on January 27th and to see the updated list of participants for both the men’s and women’s Rumble matches, check out Fightful’s published article on the topic.
