MVP Explains Why He Apologized To Shad Gaspard Over Viral Kofi Kingston Video

Following Kofi Kingston’s history WWE Title win at WrestleMania 35, a video of Shad Gaspard and MVP went viral. The moment showed the two crying as they watched their friend accomplish his goal.

The video went viral as it showed that the moment was bigger than just Kofi winning the WWE Title.

Appearing on Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia, MVP detailed his reaction to the video and why the moment meant so much to him.

“I felt upset because I thought it was a private moment. That wasn’t for public consumption or the dirtsheets or whatever. Don’t post that shit for likes. I was just angry about it and I let him know as much. I hit him up and was like, ‘that’s bullshit.’ When I saw the response to the video and I saw what people were saying and people were able to understand what it meant to see Kofi win the WWE Championship to us. On multiple levels, I was in developmental with Kofi and I’m often humbled and flattered to hear him say I was one of the first people…in those days, it was rough coming in. I had already established myself and I wasn’t into the bullying and hazing, I thought it was lame. Kofi always talks about how I was nice to him at a time where a lot of guys weren’t being nice. He’s a genuinely good guy.”

MVP continued, “To see a good husband, father, friend put in the hard work and attain something that is the apex of our industry, it was a huge moment. It gave millions of little kids around the world a hero they could identify with. ‘Wow, he looks like me. I could be a black champion too.’ It’s difficult for some people to digest that, but for the most part, it’s not that hard to understand. To see other people, once [Shad] posted the video, respond and share their sentiments for all the same reasons, I had to call Shad back and apologize. ‘Alright man, you made the right call.'”

Shad Gaspard had a HUGE heart. He was like an annoying little brother at times. We often gave eachother a hard time, but always with love! He always had a big smile on his face and was ready to share a laugh! I have had a LOT of friends and colleagues die. This one hurts different. We shared this incredible moment together. I was angry at him for sharing it. When this video went viral and people expressed their reactions to OUR reaction I realized Shad made the right call. I called him to apologize for cussing him out. We laughed. He recently sent me some of the screenplays he was working on. He had big goals. Big plans. His final act on this earth was to give his life to save his son’s. A son, a husband, a father, a friend. A hero…
