Here is your post-Monday Night Raw fight size update for January 9, 2023:

– MVP approached Bobby Lashley backstage and stated that he’s the reason Lashley got reinstated. He teased reuniting the Hurt Business as he said he wanted to mend fences. MVP also said he got Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin to see past their differences and reunite. Lashley thanked MVP but emphasized that he didn’t forget what he did. MVP then told Lashley to give him a call if he wants to expand his “business.”

A video package highlighted Cody Rhodes’ road to returning to the ring. The video focused on his injury and his surgery. The surgeon noted that his procedure went better as planned. Brandi Rhodes also appeared in the video and discussed Cody’s recovery.

– Earlier in the show, WWE United States Champion Austin Theory bragged about his win over Seth Rollins. He said Rollins was outclassed last week. Rollins then interrupted Theory. He walked out with a crutch, but he quickly made it clear that he was pretending. Theory made it clear that he believed he surpassed Rollins, and now he’s focused on bigger and better things, namely winning the Royal Rumble. Rollins then stated that his knee will be 100% just in time for the Royal Rumble, and he intends to win the whole thing. Bobby Lashley arrived, dropped Theory with a Spear and declared for the Royal Rumble.

– The broadcast team offered an update on Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair after Alexa Bliss attacked her last week. They announced that she’ll be okay. Alexa Bliss interrupted and stated that she is the face of evil. She said she feels better than she has in a long time, and she’s not afraid to do what it takes to win the title. She was interrupted by a vignette that showed her Dark Alexa Bliss. Uncle Howdy appeared on the screen, and he then came to the stage. After a commercial, Bliss and Howdy were gone. 

The Judgment Day (Dominik Mysterio & Damian Priest) won a Tag Team Turmoil Match to earn a shot at the RAW Tag Team Championship. After the match, they were confronted by the champions, The Usos.

The Miz hosted Miz TV, and Dominik Mysterio was the special guest. Dominik discussed his time in prison and stated that he learned snitches get stitches. He noted that prison changed him, as he knew he had to do what he had to do. Dominik said sometimes you have to grab life by the balls. He recalled how his cellmate wanted to punch a hole in his face, so he took the fight to him instead. The Miz applauded Dominik’s strength, and Dominik said he understands how Martha Stewart feels. The Miz initially revealed that he heard Dominik was in jail for a few hours, but he backed down.

– The broadcast team announced that Johnny Gargano suffered a grade 2 AC sprain, so he’s currently sidelined. Candice LeRae was asked about the injury and stated that Gargano is focused on healing. Rhea Ripley then confronted LeRae as both women declared for the Women’s Royal Rumble Match.

– Kevin Owens kicked off the show, and JBL quickly interrupted him. JBL insulted the crowd and introduced Baron Corbin, who told Owens there’s no way he could beat Roman Reigns at WWE Royal Rumble. Corbin vowed to win the Royal Rumble and defeat Reigns at WrestleMania. Owens was bored to sleep, but when he woke up, he challenged Corbin to a match. Owens then faced Corbin in a singles match and hit the Stunner for the win. The Usos and Solo Sikoa attacked Owens after the match. Owens fought back and sent The Bloodline running, though Adam Pearce also got involved and made sure the fight didn’t start again.

Bayley faced “Michin” Mia Yim. Before the match, Bayley cut a promo and said Becky Lynch couldn’t stand that she lost to the Damage CTRL leader. She gave IYO SKY and Dakota Kai the night off, and she told Lynch to what what she was about to do. Bayley controlled stretches of the match, but Michin rallied and brought the fight to the former champion. In the end, Bayley put her feet on the ropes during a pin attempt to clinch the three count. In an interview, Bayley discussed her win over Mia Yim, who interrupted and called her a fraud. Bayley responded by saying she’s not afraid of accepting help, and Damage CTRL (Bayley, Dakota Kai & IYO SKY) attacked Yim.

Rhea Ripley picked up a decisive win against Candice LeRae.

– A brief video package hyped up Bronson Reed. In an interview, Reed was about to discuss his return before The Miz interrupted and invited him to Miz TV. Reed turned him down and made it clear that if Miz wanted something, he’d have to pay for it.

– Mustafa Ali got frustrated when he found out Dolph Ziggler turned down the chance for the two of them to compete in the Tag Team Turmoil Match.

– Solo Sikoa defeated Dolph Ziggler, despite a valiant effort from the veteran. Sikoa celebrated with The Usos after the match.

– On Raw Talk, Alexa Bliss made it clear that she’s not afraid of Uncle Howdy, as she revels in what she is, and she’s in control.

– In a WWE Digital Exclusive, Kevin Owens stated that he has been trying to make life a living hell for The Bloodline. He made it clear that he doesn’t forget things easily, and he remembers facing Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble twice. He emphasized that he intends to beat Reigns this time. Owens noted that this upcoming match against Sami Zayn will be their 839th match together, and he wished him the best.

– In a WWE Digital Exclusive, The Judgment Day (Dominik Mysterio, Damian Priest & Rhea Ripley) discussed their win in the Tag Team Turmoil Match. Priest stated that they’re coming for The Bloodline. Dominik said it was time to celebrate Judgment Day style.
