MVP: I Didn’t Like ‘I’m Comin’ At First, I Grew To Like It In Time

MVP discusses his classic theme song from Silkk the Shocker.

‘I’m Comin’ is arguably one of the best theme songs in wrestling history. The song, which sadly isn’t used on WWE programming anymore, helped MVP become one of the more popular wrestlers in the mid 2000s, which led to him becoming a two time United States Champion and a one time Tag Team Champion alongside Matt Hardy.

In a new interview with Fightful, MVP noted that he actually didn’t like the song when it was first presented to him, but he did grow to like it after some time.

“Not really. As I’ve said many times, Silkk the Shocker theme, I didn’t like it at first. I grew to like it in time. I was in the arena one afternoon and Vince called me over, had them play it. ‘This is gonna be your music.’ I remember when they were playing it, Vince was doing his awkward dance to it. I was like, ‘Vince, if you like it, I love it.’ At the time I was doing the Jim Jones balling, I’m a big fan of New York hip hop, I wanted something a little more boom-bap. It’s a great song. It became identified with me. I didn’t really have any say in it at all. It was just, ‘Here’s your music,’ ‘Oh, okay. Cool.’”

MVP now uses the Baller’s Anthem song in WWE. The legendary manager currently manages Omos, who recently got the chance to fight Brock Lesnar on night two of WrestleMania 39. Fans can see Fightful’s report on that show by clicking here.
