MVP: The Generation Now Has Always Known Professional Wrestling As Scripted Entertainment

MVP expects more cinematic matches in the future because that’s the evolution of wrestling.

WWE has found success with cinematic matches in recent months beginning with the Boneyard match between AJ Styles and Undertaker at WrestleMania 36. Since then, each WWE pay-per-view event has featured a cinematic style bout.

MVP is expecting that trend to continue in the coming months.

“Everything evolves, whether you like it or not, the world is evolving around you,” said MVP on Booker T’s Hall of Fame show“Professional wrestling, as its always been, has evolved into entertainment. Vince McMahon has publicly compared WWE to Disney. It’s an entertainment conglomerate. Wrestling fans are always evolving in the way they consume professional wrestling and the way they consume content and entertainment. Whether I like it or not, it doesn’t matter, it matters for the people who are going to consume the product. If you don’t evolve, you go extinct. That’s one of the things about the new generation vs. the old generation. I’m a classically trained professional wrestler, born in the 70s. To me, professional wrestling was MMA before there was MMA. You have a generation now that never knew professional wrestling when it was real. It’s always been just scripted entertainment to them. This new evolution into the cinematic match isn’t that far a leap from what the new consumers are used to.”

MVP has yet to take part in a cinematic bout, but things are going well for him in WWE as he is the self-proclaimed United States Champion.
