Mustafa Ali: People Are Elevated On WWE TV By Tearing Another Down, I’m Not About That
Mustafa Ali hasn’t wrestled on WWE television since December 13, 2019 when he and Shorty G teamed to take on the Revival on SmackDown. Ali was regularly teaming with Shorty G at the end of 2019, but the duo hasn’t been together in recent weeks as Shorty G has been involved in a feud with Sheamus.
The feud between Shorty G and Sheamus has revolved around one fella being big and the other being short. It’s the opposite of the message Ali is trying to preach with his character on-screen and social media.
“What’s cool about social media is people learn the man behind the superstar,” Ali told News 14. “My following, they learn the message behind all this; why I compete, why I fight with all my heart, why I say certain things, why I respond to certain trolls the way I do. My whole philosophy and message is ‘be the light in the dark.’ There are plenty of dark times around us, but it’s up to us as a society and as human begins to be that light. I think that’s what has people flock towards me. It’s kind of a relief. Even if you watch WWE programming, a lot of people are elevated by tearing people down. I’m not about that. It’s a fresh new way and the way I live my life. From a WWE and audience perspective, it’s something new and calm.”
He continued, “It’s 2020. Look at the conversations we’re having in 2000 from people from different sexual orientations, from different backgrounds, from different ethnicities. We, as people, are advancing. It sucks that it’s taken so long to advance and realize that there are no differences, but we’re getting there. I truly believe there are more good than evil.”
Ali has preached “being the light” on social media and has often responded to trolls attacking his ethnicity with kindness and understanding.
