Montez Ford Was Ready To Change His Name And Move If He Missed Ladder Jump At NXT TakeOver: XXV
Montez Ford discusses his leap of faith.
The Street Profits stole the show at NXT TakeOver: XXV, winning the NXT Tag Team Titles in a fatal four-way ladder match. The ending came when Montez Ford leaped from the top rope onto the ladder in the middle of the ring. Ford would knock Wesley Blake off the ladder, securing the NXT Tag Team Titles for himself and Angelo Dawkins
Speaking to Sam Roberts on the NotSam Wrestling podcast, Montez revealed what was going through his head as he made the jump.
“It was terrifying. As I’m getting up there, I’m like, ‘If I don’t make this….you know what, I just won’t show my face anymore. I’ll leave the company, change my name. I’ll move to Puerto Rico.’ This is the stuff that’s going through my head as I’m on the top rope and leaping to the ladder,” said Ford. “You can see when I land; my eyes are in shock like, ‘Oh snap. I made it.’ You know how bad it would be for my kids to have to go to school and [they hear], ‘Your daddy, yeah, he didn’t make it.'”

Ford’s leaping ability is at the top of the list among WWE/NXT superstars, as evident by his Performance Center videos. Two years ago, Ford cleared a 64-inch hurdle during the combine. He took first in the men’s broad jump at this year’s combine.
