MJF Is Hopeful Jungle Boy Gives Him A Good Match At AEW Double Or Nothing Because ‘He’s Bored’

MJF proclaims himself to be a superior athlete, head and shoulders above the entire AEW locker room.

At AEW Double Or Nothing 2020, Maxwell Jacob Friedman will take on Jungle Boy in a match that Cody Rhodes said on a recent media call is comparable to a young Dustin Rhodes taking on a young “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

Speaking on an Instagram live Q&A for B/R Live, MJF, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, said that he was getting bored with the lack of competition in AEW and is hopeful that the upcoming pay-per-view bout with Jungle Boy lights a fire in him.

Maxwell was perhaps uncharacteristically complimentary of his opponent but said that the likelihood of this match coming together because Cody Rhodes has it in for him and knows that Jungle Boy has pushed him to his limit in the past is too good to be just a coincidence.

“I hate to say it, but I think you and I both know that a certain individual is an EVP in that company. I’m not quite sure he’s a big old fan of mine,” MJF began. “Let’s face it, Jungle Boy, whether I want to admit it or not is an incredible competitor. That man has so much potential, he truly does. He has so much potential. He’s got potential out the asshole. In all of our matches, whenever we’ve been in the ring together, he’s one of the only people on a roster who even came remotely close to beating me. Do I think this decision was intentionally made? Because the powers that be don’t like the fact that MJF is undefeated? Yeah, duh, you have to be blind not to see that. But it doesn’t matter because I’m still going to get the win because I’m a superior wrestler and that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to out-wrestle Jungle Boy.”

He continued, “There are a lot of people and it’s laughable to me that I’ll see on the Internet they’ll go, ‘man, MJF. He’s such a great talker, but he’s such a jerk. He’s not trying out there. He’s not wrestling as hard as the rest of the guys.’ Why work harder when you can work smarter? You can look up my matches when I was on the independent scene. I could do Moonsaults, 450 [Splashes], Fosbury Flops, you name it. All of it, I could do all of it. Then I realized something, was I doing that to get the win, or was I doing that to try to impress people?

“I was doing it because I thought it was helping me try to win. But deep down, it really was [because] I was trying to impress the marks. Once I realized that it had no benefit to me, I stopped. I’m a superior athlete to everybody in the AEW locker room. That includes your PACs, your Fenixs, your Orange Cassidys. I’m a freak athlete. But me doing a cool little flippity-doo-dah, flippity-ay isn’t going to get me the winner’s purse. That’s why I’m going to beat Jungle Boy. I’m going to out-tech him. I’m going to out-wrestle him. I’m going to out-athlete him and I’m going to pin him or submit him. That’s just what it’s going to be at the end of the day at Double Or Nothing. Is he going to put up a great fight? Probably. I hope he does, because, like I said, I’m getting bored. I’m getting very, very bored. I just want some competition. Give me something! Hopefully, Jungle Boy is that competition.”
